This thing in a serious race machine. It was designed not just in conjunction with a pro team, like many other manufacturers do, but it was designed FOR the AG2R La Mondial Pro-Tour team. The bike that we have here is the Izalco MAX 1.0 equipped with the impeccable Shimano Dura Ace Di2 groupset and we are not exaggeration to say that this bike is a pro tour bike. You will see this exact bike, with different livery and wheels on roads of Italy, France and Belgium this spring and summer. 

It’s stiff, it’s comfortable, and it is seriously lightweight. By the time you add pedals, water bottle cages and a computer, you’ll be just over the minimum weight of 15 pounds at most races. It comes with the same 52/36 gearing as most of the focus road bikes, so it is just a cassette swap away from a Juniors’ race machine. 

Another theme we are seeing this year from Focus is value. While I would call the Izalco MAX 1.0 “cheap”, or “budget” it is still a great value. However when you start to look at bikes that are both similarly spec’ed and similar weights, it really stands out. These factory lightweights can easily push well into the 5 digit price points. So at even at $7,800, the Izalco MAX 1.0 is swinging way above its price point, and is on the wishlist of everyone here.
